Abstract

As global tensions rise around semiconductor supply chains, the open-source silicon movement finds itself at a crossroads. In this talk, we will explore how Steward Ownership (a governance structure that separates profit rights from voting rights) can provide financial sustainability and organizational independence for open-source silicon fabricators. Drawing lessons from the open-source software world, we examine how alternative ownership models can protect mission alignment and enable long-term reinvestment into commons-based innovation.
