Abstract

A significant proportion of the know-how in the microelectronic value chain lies in the design of microchips and the software tools used for this purpose. In order to strengthen Germany's innovation and competitiveness and to gain technological sovereignty, design capabilities are to be expanded at the national level. To this end, the Federal Ministry of Education and Research Germany (BMBF) launched the Microelectronics Design Initiative in September 2022. Based on the funding program "DE:Sign" as an integral part of the Microelectronics Design Initiative, the BMBF is funding projects to research new design tools and methods as well as innovative chip designs with a focus on open source processes for new microelectronics.
