Abstract

Encouraging and motivating new designers to join the world of free and open source hardware requires that Open EDA tools be easily accessible and available. Packaging of Open EDA tools is one of the way to offer the designers an effortless access to Open Hardware world. This packaging could be a nightmare depending on OS distributions, PDK used, configurations needed etc. With the concrete case of packaging Coriolis, we will present various situations for the distribution of Open EDA tools, their benefits and drawbacks, the various suggested OS distributions, their installation process and a small tutorial. After that, we propose to open the discussion on the best practices to facilitate the distributions’ availability and maintenance over time following OS distribution’s evolution.
