Abstract

The DI-QDISC (Design Initiative – Open Source Design Tools for Sovereign Chip Development) project explores whether, and for which technologies and application domains, open source design tools can contribute to technological sovereignty and innovation in Europe—either as an alternative or a complement to proprietary solutions. In addition to the technological dimensions, the project also examines potential business models for open source design tools. This acatech IMPULS publication contributes to the ongoing dialogue among key stakeholders from academia, industry, and policy. Its focus lies in identifying options for strengthening the design ecosystem and enhancing innovation capacity in Germany and Europe—particularly in support of innovative start-ups and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
